In the second post of our Local Entertainer Spotlight series, we’re highlighting one of Central Florida’s busiest queens. You know her and you love her: none other than the talented Allegra Williams!

We interviewed Allegra to find out all the details, from how she became involved in drag, to her favorite pre-show rituals.

How long have you been doing drag?

I’ve been doing drag for 9 years, which is hard to think about it because it doesn’t seem like it has been that long!

How did you first get involved in the art of drag?

Allegra first appeared in Orlando when I was 18 years old. I was go-go dancing at Pulse Orlando and Savoy. I would go out to Parliament House on Sunday nights and meet all the queens in Orlando. One thing led to another and Allegra was born!

What is one of your favorite drag memories?

I have so many favorite memories… many I’m sure others wouldn’t want me to share! Honestly, pride is one of my favorite memories of being in drag. Being surrounded by all your chosen family and being ourselves and celebrating that! Polk Pride, over the past 5+ years, has been one of my top memories!

What does drag mean to you?

To me, drag means so many things. I use my performances to express my creativity that is constantly wanting to escape. My favorite part about drag is the people you meet along the way. Some of my best friendships are because of drag. To me, drag means connecting and being with my community.

Can you tell us the story behind your drag name?

LOL! I got my name from the movie “Hitch.” There was a socialite character by the name of Allegra and I became obsessed with that name! So I’ve been Allegra ever since! Williams came from my first drag mother, Blue Williams.

What is your all-time favorite song to lip sync?

Whew, that’s a hard one! I have a few but my all-time favorite is probably “This is My Life,” by Dame Shirley Bassey. It’s just an emotional, feel-good song to me!

How long does it take you to get into drag?

If I’m rushing, I can be ready in 30 minutes. I prefer, however, to take my time so I typically take an hour or so.

Do you have any drag daughters?

No little Williams running around here yet, LOL! I’m definitely open to helping guide or mentor any entertainer that wants or needs it!

What is your favorite Polk Pride memory?

One of my favorite memories with Polk Pride is performing at Pride After Dark. I just love being backstage in the green room cutting up and having fun with all the girls.

What do you think the future has in store for Polk drag?

I think Polk drag is amazing. The amount of talent we have here is definitely underestimated, and I think that drag in Lakeland has nowhere to go but up!

What do you most wish to accomplish through drag?

Connecting with people! I love to give people a little moment to escape the real world and watch a good show!

What’s one of the wildest drag stories you can share with us?

I literally have so many it’s hard to just pick one. I do have a story about an all-day extravaganza involving three shows, an after party, and well, long story short… I ended up pushing my car home with a friend.

Do you have any pre-show rituals/traditions?

Yes, shaving my face! LOL! I actually like to get to the bar early so I can hangout with people, chat, get to know them and have plenty of time to set up!

How can we find out when/where we can see Allegra in action?

You can friend me on Facebook (Allegra Williams) or follow me on Instagram (Allegra_williamss). You can also catch me at The Parrot, in Lakeland, which is Florida’s oldest gay bar! I also regularly perform at bars all over Central Florida!
